Very true. It is an observation in most households with at least 2 children that the younger one picks up the most from the elder sibling while being taught. Children observe nicely and can imitate or reciprocate similarly. Now that we have two children in front of us, we are able to compare.
But go back a little down the Memory Lane, did our first child also not observe things and reciprocate in a similar way. Twinkle twinkle, nos 1 2 3 4, the first child must have learnt before joining the school. But the only problem was that we were not trained enough as to what to teach to our first child. We were first time parents as well. But when the first one joined the school and got exposed to a whole new world of learning, it was easier for the second child to follow as well.
So, I believe every child has the capacity to observe and follow. However, the second child has a better model before him.

The atmosphere of the family is a very important thing in the bringing up of the children and they being of tender mind try to mimic what they see their family members doing. So a good and congenial atmosphere in the family is going to inculcate god habits and learning aspirations in the children. Some families have a very conspicuous educational atmosphere and everyone talks of stories, books etc. They play games also of educational nature. Naturally if the child gets exposure to such an already existing atmosphere in the house he would be certainly much benefited by it.

Truly said by Umesh, the home must be friendly to the child to learn everything from parents and the sibling. There are immense chance for growth.
