Create the cursive writing habit in your child

A student may be good at studies and answer all the questions orally and when it comes to the writing the child suffers from the poor hand writing. The reason for that is the poor training at home and at the school. At the first level of U KG itself the students are given the chance to write cursive writing. But a educated parent should try the cursive writing at the L KG level itself so that when the child goes to the U KG , he understands more about the cursive writing and importance of it to score more marks in the tests and exams. What are your views.?

Cursive writing is an art. In no way it is related to someone's writing skill. I see Indian schools give more importance to cursive writing. As you mentioned, cursive writing is imposed on kids from UKG. Some schools make it as summer training from kids move from LKG to UKG. I know few parents send their kids to summer training to learn cursive writing. The kids in LKG and UKG are around 5 years only. Many science tells that kids' bone get strengthened only by the age 7. When writing itself a forcing thing to that age, parents and teachers should help in kids' hand flexibility by related activities. Kids at the age of 5 and 6 should first be learning phonics and learn writing, then only they can move on to perfection in handwriting.

Forcing something on the early age will impact a lot in their education. So, we should handle delicately. In my personal opinion, cursive writing is something to not to be forced at an younger age, Kids who are interested should learn cursive writing privately or as part of school activity, but not as a mandatory one. Writing is important, not the Cursive writing.

If we do not monitor the writing habits of our children then it may so happen that they would not be having good command in writing later in their lives. It is better to inculcate writing habits in them from as early as possible and if parents spare some time then it is not a difficult thing.

I still agree to the fact that writing habit should be inculcated in the early education. But I wonder, why cursive writing is so important to learn. What does it serve to one's learning? I know my teachers telling that it fastens my writing and thus helps in exams. So do we begin to train kids for exams from LKG and UKG. LKG and UKG are the age to learn and understand the concept. We should concentrate on their understanding and not on their presentations. I still suggest, parents should have more patience, let the kids learn one by one, not everything at a time. Give importance to what's more important.

There are kids, who outsmart, they can be taught ahead of additional things like presenting their learning, when we make cursive writing as a mandatory one to 4 and 5 years old kids, it backfires as a forceful of act of learning to the slow bloomers too.
