History of StudyVillage: The educational website for children

The idea of launching StudyVillage.com came in to our mind a couple of years ago when we were desperately searching for the best educational sites for our kids. Read more to find out what was the inspiration to launch StudyVillage and the history of this website.

John with School Bag We have 3 boys who love to sit in front of the computer all time. They are good at reading and do great at school, but we felt that their attention is deviating towards computers and playing games. So we started thinking various ways to keep their interest in studies and skill development while they continue to use their time with computers.

We started browsing for educational websites that help children learn while having fun. During our several months long research, we came across various educational websites for children. However, most of the websites we found had one or other reasons that made us look for alternatives.

Some of the concerns we had with other educational websites for kids:

1. Most of the free educational sites for children are filled with advertisements. While the website owners have good intentions, many times the ads delivered by the Ad networks on the children's websites are not so child friendly. I have seen adult Ads in many educational websites, which made us stay from all such websites since we never know unwanted ads appear there.

2. Many educational sites for children are paid sites, if they are not funded from advertisements. If children want to use their educational features, they have to pay huge monthly fees to get access to them.

3. Features and options available in many paid sites are limited. To use various features, we had to subscribe to multiple sites, paying fees in all of them.

While we could afford to pay the fees asked by those web sites (and we did use them), we started thinking about options to make such services available to other thousands of kids who cannot afford the fees. We thought about various options including paying some big money to existing sites and making it available for free to children all over the world. However, we could not make that work.

Finally, we started thinking about developing our own educational website to help the children. When we talked about this idea to our children, they were very excited which gave a boost to our plans. And being a software engineer myself and having the owner of few other websites, it was quite easy for us to get started with this plan.

We started thinking about a good domain name for our new site. Since this site is for educational purpose, we wanted to make sure the words "study" or "education" is part of the domain name. Also, we wanted the name to be as short as possible so that it is easy for kids to remember. We considered several good names, but most of them were already taken by someone.

Finally, our elder son John came up with a name that caught the attention of everyone at home. In few hours, we went ahead and registered the domain name and started a small websites. That gave birth to "StudyVillage.com".

Before we announced the website to public, we had our children use it for few months and made sure all glitches are solved and the site is user friendly.

We are glad to present the fruits of our hardwork to everyone in the world. All of our services are absolutely free. You are welcome to use all our services like playing brain development games, solving puzzles online, taking practice tests, using coloring pages and so on.
