This article teaches you how to make a beautiful and cute paper bookmark. A bookmark tutorial is not very uncommon in internet. But here is a simple and easy DIY paper bookmark tutorial specially designed for children. Through six simple and easy steps, children can learn how to make a cute and marvellous paper bookmark of their own. So let us begin:
Step 1: Take a cardboard sheet. The cardboard sheet has to be a bit thick so that the bookmark does not get ruined easily. However, do not use cardboards that are very much thick. They will be hard to cut. Instead, you can use one of medium thickness.
Step 2: Cut out a rectangular piece which is big enough to be placed between the books to mark the page you last read. If you are confused about the size, you can use an original bookmark as the modal. While cutting, make sure that edges are sharp and square. If you find it difficult to cut it out, you can seek the help of your parents.
Step 3: Using a punching machine, carefully punch a hole in the topmost edge right in the middle as seen in the picture. The hole has to be made in the exact centre of the bookmark. Then only will the bookmark stand balanced when we insert thread later. If you find it difficult to punch a hole in exact middle, do one thing. Take a ruler, and measure the width of the bookmark. Mark the exact middle by dividing it by two. Using a pen, put a mark in the exact middle. Then use the punching machine to put a hole exactly through the middle.
Step 4: Using a pencil, draw outline of any beautiful design in the bookmark. For this too, you can use an original bookmark as model. For a simple design, refer to the picture attached below. It is simple, yet a few lines of design gives attraction to the whole bookmark.
Step 5: Paint the whole bookmark colourfully. Let it dry properly. You can also add either your name or your child's name to make it customised.
Step 6: Insert a thick thread through the whole. Children will find it easier to hold the bookmark if it has a beautiful thread attached to it. You can use a thick thread you usually find in craft shops. Or you can use woolen thread as well.
Step 7: Add a few beads to the thread and then tie it if you want to make it more beautiful. Adding a few beads not only adds to the beauty of the bookmark, but all these makes sure that the child doesn't lose the bookmark easily. Weightless bookmark get lost easily. In a small wind, they will get flown off. Children may put them between the pages of a book and then forget all about them. If the bookmark has a few beads on it, you can avoid these problems.
Beautiful bookmarks will prompt the child to read more books, at least for the sake of using the bookmark. Thus it will help to instil reading habit in small children. The thread will make it easier for them to hold. Their name on it will make them feel that the bookmark is their own, and is something personal.
